I’ve seen this white-tailed deer hanging around the fringes of the yard a few times — a young male. On this occasion, he tripped the camera trap while passing through. For whatever reason, the deer seem to show up in greater numbers during the winter. Nikon D810 with Nikkor 17-35mm lens (at 17mm) ISO 500, f/14 at 1/200th of a second, Cognisys camera box, trail monitor and remote flashes.
Judging by the hair in his ears and the white creeping into his fur, I’d say this buck is at least 58. I don’t know who he’s trying to kid with this “young buck” thing, but it’s just sad.
Great silhouette! I’d suspect they visit you more often in the winter because there is more food sources, or some better protection from the cold in your spot. (Just a guess.) Wonderful for you!

What a great capture! Real nice, Sean!
Thanks Sue. It took a while but I finally found a spot where the deer seem to pass quite regularly.
Amazing capture!
Thanks Rachel.

As good a guess as any. I do love seeing their eyes shining back at me when I take my dog out for his nightly walks around the yard.
