That “rack” (antlers) is regrown every year, then shed in autumn. Can you imagine what nutrient intake is needed to grow all that bone & cartilage each season, only to have it all fall off and regrown, a bit bigger, next year? Some of the moose and elk antlers can weigh up to 80 pounds.
Good info there Bob. I’m always surprised that I don’t see last year’s racks scattered about the meadows and hillsides while out hiking — I mean, seeing as they shed them each year.
