Just a simple head shot of a bull moose today. I saw three of these guys all competing for a single female during the rut last September in Alaska. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 330mm) ISO 800, f/4 at 1/250th of a second
Hey Sean, that is a nice one. Thank you for sharing the settings. BTW, I started my Instagram photography account. If you want to check it out: @lenscollector.
That “rack” (antlers) is regrown every year, then shed in autumn. Can you imagine what nutrient intake is needed to grow all that bone & cartilage each season, only to have it all fall off and regrown, a bit bigger, next year? Some of the moose and elk antlers can weigh up to 80 pounds.
Good info there Bob. I’m always surprised that I don’t see last year’s racks scattered about the meadows and hillsides while out hiking — I mean, seeing as they shed them each year.
