The jandaya parakeet, also known as the jenday conure, is one of the more brilliantly plumed birds that I saw in Brazil — and I saw a lot of brilliantly plumed birds in Brazil. Not surprisingly, these parakeets are commonly sold as pets and they can be trained to mimic words and sounds. In the wild they are widespread but rare. That is one colorful bird. That’s not a euphemism. I’m not trying to indirectly tell you that this bird has failed out of seven colleges, lives in a teepee and has a circus kink it’s not very subtle about. No. That’s not what I’m trying to tell you at all. I’m simply trying to say that this bird’s feathers are of many different colors, in case you hadn’t already noticed.
