Meerkats are always on the lookout for any possible danger. This gang of them seem to have all directions under heavy surveillance. A group of meerkats can be called a gang, a mob or a clan. I kind of liked the former for this particular group. Photographed in the Kalahari Desert of Botswana at a place called the Makgadikgadi Pans. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 17-35mm lens (at 35mm) ISO 400, f/13 at 1/400th of a second.
These are the most hilarious animals. I’ll bet Shardae could come up with outfits to suit either gang, mob, or clan. Immediate images popped into my aging brain!
I don’t think Meerkats really belong to a gang. I think they’re just a bunch of poseur punks. I think the name for a group of Meerkats should be changed to “a punk of Meerkats.”
Glancing ever so briefly at the tiny thumbnail of this image, what’s left of my mind immediately imagined I was looking at the uprights of a fence in a field. Meerkats just may take first place as Mother Nature’s humorists.

Oooohh I’m so tempted to work my magic on this one!! My mind keeps going political with it, but I’m afraid I’ll ruffle too many feathers 😀
You certainly wouldn’t ruffle my mother’s feathers with anything political. At least not from your point of view.

Meerkats always make me giggle! I really think they should be called a posse: “saddle up boys, we’re circling the wagons”!
