These two male zebras were going at each other during rutting season, trying to prove dominance for mating rights. Photographed at Ol Pajeta Conservancy in Laikipia, Kenya. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 400, f/6.3 at 1/800th of a second.
AWESOME!!!!!! Love the black & white patterns on the zebras & their dramatic posturing against the backdrop of blue in the sky & tan/brown-hued grasses. The open jaw of the zebra in the foreground & hint of teeth baring in the zebra behind tells the tale – they do not appear to be best buddies. A definite wall hanger, Sean!
Of all the creatures we saw in Africa, zebras were my favorite with their graphic patterns. They seemed to exude a tranquility as they grazed, or drank at the waterholes. This does not look like a “happy dance”! Great action moment capture!
