As I’ve mentioned before, warthogs don’t get a lot of respect when it comes to most safari-goer’s wish lists. But they remain one of my favorites, especially when the piglets are out and about. We spotted this mother and one of her piglets on a morning game drive in the Masai Mara of Kenya last year. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/2000th of a second.
Interesting fact about the Lion King. Most animals are named after their Swahili names (Simba is lion) or a Swahili word that corresponds to the dominant trait of the animal. Pumbaa means “slow witted.” No respect. On this last trip, however, I saw a warthog completely outwit a pride of five lionesses. It looked like all was over for the warthog when suddenly it dashed in the only direction that a lion wasn’t waiting to ambush. It lived another day and the lions had to regroup to find something else for dinner.
Was the mom warthog’s mullet like, ironic, as in the kind you’d see in a DUMBO skate shop? Or was it a non-ironic mullet? This answer will greatly affect how I view this warthog, and all warthogs.
I can’t be certain, but I’d say the former. They’re actually the hipsters of the savanna and it’s only time before they start prancing around in skinny jeans.
great pic. ) I heard these wild bors or pig are good to eat, they said you just have fire rostit, for about 12 hours, or the meat will be tough to eat, is this so. ? ) have try this meat before. ? )

Ok my they are unattractive. But then I guess it’s true that all Gods creatures are beautiful. Elven the piglet has that bizarre hair.
They are quite a bit more personable in real life. And sometimes they walk right through camp.
I didn’t know warthogs could go “blonde”! That’s quite a mane! I actually think they are quite comical, hence imbued with a certain “charm”.
No doubt Laura. Charming is a good way to describe them. And yes, this mom had an unusually blonde mane.
Since The Lion Ling we have been entertained by them and this show a tender side of them to us
Lucky to get the shot

That is a dear image of a much maligned (from an appearance perspective) animal. Real nice, Sean!
Thanks Sue. I love them all. Sometimes the uglier the better.
