Anyone who has been on an African safari knows that warthogs can be vastly underrated and under appreciated. Sure, they aren’t the prettiest on the savanna, but they make up for it in personality. This one appeared to be directing traffic as a herd (or dazzle) of zebras passed by. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 800, f/4 at 1/2000th of a second
Love warthogs, their tails up trotting along and kneeling to eat. Love your pictures. We share an aquiantance, William Kipsoi was our Masai guide while in Lewa for marathon 2009 Safaricom. Our son did 1/2 marathon. Have kept in touch with William since, I am his Canadian Mom.
Your pictures make me long to return but circumstances aren’t always accommodating are they. We saw Aberdare, The Ark. Lewa, Masai Mara, Mt Kenya Safari Club and Giraffe Manor. Sheldrick elephant rescue where we interacted with rescued orphan baby elephants and a baby rhino.
Africa stirs the soul. It is heartbreaking to read of all the corruption and poaching. Our poor animals and planet. Keep taking wonderful pics, they are so enjoyed by many. Thank you. Sue
I LOVE warthogs!!! They are so full of personality! Took my baby to the zoo last year & the warthogs had just had a brood of babies, they were the cutest things EVER!! Needless to say, my baby boy went home with a warthog stuffed animal & it is now one of his favorites…stuffed tusks are really great for teething, lol 🙂

The jaw says it all —- Ignor its attitude at —- Your very peril .
What a great shot, Sean!
They do have a lot of personality and when they run their tails stick straight up like little flags and it immediately goes down as soon as they stop.
love these guys! we had one that lived at our safari lodge and he let us get pretty close. they’re so ugly they’re almost cute.
True. True.

Yeah, it was nice seeing a few of the babies too. Very cute indeed.
Ever since The Lion King we all have a certain affection for them, but who was in danger there?
No danger, just a couple of herbivores crossing paths. Next time you see Karen, however, ask her about the warthog that almost broke her leg.
