In lieu of much recent activity up at the camera trap, here’s a shot of a young Virginia opossum from back in the fall. Nikon D810 with Nikkor 17-35mm lens (at 17mm) ISO 400, f/14 at 1/80th of a second, Cognisys camera box, trail monitor and remote flash units.
Slightly cuter than a rat. And much cuter than the Virginia opossum that I caught and attempted to domesticate when I was a kid (in Virginia, coincidentally). Not a very good substitute for a dog.
OMGoodness! Sounds like quite an adventure. But there is NO substitute for a faithful companion like a dog! My guy has been gone for almost 7 years and I can still cry instantly when thinking about the wonderful years I had with him, running the beach, etc.

Is Virginia her proper first name or is it more of a cowboy nickname like Texas Slim, Georgia Johnny or Connecticut Crane?
Nice perspective on the face of that critter, Sean! I like that your ‘possum is framed between the two highlighted tree trunks in the background.
Thanks Sue. It was all the opossum’s doing. Very cooperative.

Ha, no. And they only live for 2 to 4 years. Not enough time to really get attached.
Love them! Greatest tick eaters we have! We need more possums!
I can agree with that.
