Here’s another bobcat shot. This time there are two of them and they were visiting late morning last Wednesday. My surveillance cam was off so I didn’t get to see a video of their reaction, but it seems as if they were really checking out the flash mounted to a tree along with the trigger sensor. It’s hard to tell from this image, but the bobcat in the back is actually bigger than the one in the front. Most likely a mother with an older kitten. Nikon D810 with Nikkor 20mm lens, ISO 500, f/14 at 1/200th of a second, Cognisys camera box, trail monitor and remote flash units.
These Bobcats must have been hanging out with some C-list celebrities, like Shia LeBouef or something. You can see how confused they are by the flash of cameras.
They do. Not exactly side by side, but they range throughout the same areas. Although bobcats are extremely widespread — the most widespread wild cat in North America, in 47 states and parts of Canada and Mexico.
So much fun to see two of them together! Had you not explained, I would have guessed the cat in the background was the little guy, gingerly following Mom. A lot goes on in your backyard, and the bobcats must be regularly finding some decent meals nearby.
That’s what I thought too but they took several photos of themselves across three visits and I was able to see that the other cat is the larger of the two.

I’ve yet to catch a Shia LeBouef in my camera trap, but who knows, some day.
These are fabulous shots. So I guess bears and bobcats coexist peacefully??
