I caught this leatherback hatchling, enveloped in a wave, just as it was about to get swept out to sea. Here’s to hoping the rest of the journey is as successful as the initial dash from the nest to the ocean. As with all my photos over the last couple of weeks, click for a much larger view. It’s as though the surf is serving up a wet security blanket to cover the little leatherback hatchling as it embarks on its trip of a lifetime. Great timing, Sean!

Thanks Sue. This was one of those that I didn’t notice at first until I went back through the photos.
So many textures: gritty sand, frothy water, soft sky. And, in the midst of it all, a tiny miracle struggling for life. Awesome.
Thanks Ann. I really liked the way that the wave left a little opening to see the little guy.

You know I love the sea turtles, Crane… and this one is simply amazing (I feel like I say that a lot on here!)
Love this pic. The turtle story makes me anxious. Hope he makes it.
Night time is best to enter the ocean. Less would-be predators around, so he is set up for success.
Amazing and beautiful!
Thanks Angelina. I love the little turtles.
