The elephants came very close, giving me the opportunity to try some intimate portraits. I had the focus on the eye for this one, but am wondering if I should have switched it to the tip of the trunk. Either way, some nice texture in there. Photographed in the Maasai Mara of Kenya. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens (at 180mm) ISO 800, f/2.8 at 1/640th of a second.
I think you made the right choice. After all, we really connect with others through our eye contact. It’s wonderful, and a little heart stopping, to be so close to these behemoths!

“Trunk and Tusk” should be the name of the adventure pub you open.
I like it. The idea of an adventure pub, not necessarily the name.
I like it just the way it is.
Thanks Donna.

Thanks Laura, and yes, that is the first rule (if there are to be any rules) of wildlife photography — focus on the eye.
Texture for sure every grove & line on trunk shows
Definitely no shortage of texture when it comes to elephants.
I love this photo!
