This trumpeter swan was enjoying a late afternoon snack on Tern Lake on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. It’s chick can be seen out of focus in the background. Trumpeter swans are the largest waterfowl in the world with a wingspan that can reach ten feet.
Beautiful shot, Sean! I like the golden backdrop that Tern Lake offered up. Was this taken with your 200-400mm@400 + TC1.4? Just wonder how close you were able to get to the birds. We get Tundra Swans at a nearby NWR. With the above lens combo on a D810 in DX mode, I still need to crop the image in post-production to end up with a similar view. A 500mm or 600mm lens would help, but the Refuge folks would probably discourage the use of a forklift!
