This sloth was being downright gluttonous as she tore into a fruiting cecropia tree. She had bits of fruit all over her face while devouring one piece after the next. Sloths love cecropia trees and more often than not, if you spot a sloth, it’ll be hanging from the branches of a cecropia. All in, we saw eight different sloths last week in Peru. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 500PF lens, ISO 800, f/5.6 at 1/320th of a second.
What a shot! Amazing close up composition of your sloth eating. I see what appears to be another limb in the lower R corner.. Does it belong to her? Maybe it’s the angle, but the nails seem somewhat shorter than the limb that is more prominently featured. The nails look too long to belong to a baby sloth.
Anyway it’s a wonderful photo. I’m so glad you are once again globetrotting with your camera gear & I look forward to seeing the eye candy you have brought back, Sean! Welcome home.
Great eye Sue. That’s her left foot. I’ll have to upload a few where I used a wider angle. She was alone but I did see another sloth with a baby about an hour before this find.
Thanks Nicole. It was a great trip. Karen and I are off to Kenya/Uganda in a few weeks, this time leading a tour. First time since before Covid and can’t wait to get back. Hope all is well out in Michigan.

Oh, that was her foot! I never considered the lower limbs.
