Marine iguanas really do look like Godzilla, and perhaps none more so than this guy that we encountered on Fernandina Island. They are very prehistoric looking creatures and were my favorite of all the fascinating animals across the Galapagos Archipelago. Love lizards. a couple of questions –
Were there many of them or did you have to search for them? How big are they? Do their sizes range a lot? Are they aggressive or curious?
Hey bobbo,
Marine iguanas were on every island we visited. They are very common in the Galapagos. And on every island they are a bit different in size, color and appearance. Generally, males can be 4 to 5 feet long. Females are 2 to 3 feet long. They were neither aggressive or curious. They just kind of lay there for the most part. You had to be careful of where you were walking so that you didn’t step on them.

Hey Michael, as an endangered species, the marine iguana is highly protected and illegal to have as a pet.
Wow that is very cool.

They look so ferocious! Yet they are non-aggressive. Who needs to be aggressive when you look like that? Great shot!
Great picture.
I don’t often comment but I look at and enjoy this photo blog every day.
Thanks Mike. I appreciate it.
Hahahaha. Great title!
Awesome!!! I would definitely scream and run if I came across this guy!
