A break in all the Botswana action for something a little closer to home. These four black bear cubs of varying ages were all playing together one afternoon on my trip to northern Minnesota back in June. Nikon D800 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 220mm) ISO 800, f/4 at 1/400th of a second
Every one of them is looking at another climber. Most excellent catch, Sean. Four cubs and one mother? Not sure because the two cubs in the middle look pretty different in terms of size. Let’s hope the tree is a day nursery and one mother does not have to look after four hyperactive, mischievous cubs with a lot to learn.
Sean,
Great shot of the 4 cubs. Unlike a previous comment I see the 2 bigger bears as cubs, not enough maturity showing in their faces to be adults.
Great composition.
PS: Can I have your job if you ever decide to give it up?
It’s always a pleasure to see your daily Blog Photos.

I am so totally envious I am so far away and too late in years to take images like this.

Hey Michael,
They appeared to be two sets of cubs. One set from this year and the others were probably yearlings.
what a fun photo! Love this shot!
That is sooooo cute!
Amazing
Along with the Giraffe Silhouette & Elephant Lashes…one of my favorites!

Thanks Con. And yes, they were all cubs. The two little ones were probably from this year while the other two older cubs were most likely yearlings.
Great shot Sean!!
