Gerenuk’s are known for their long necks — in fact, they are commonly called giraffe-necked antelope. At times, they will rear back on their hind legs and stand upright while feeding on higher leaves. This female gerenuk was doing just that before turning to look in our direction. Photographed in Samburu National Reserve in Kenya. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/1600th of a second.
What a sweet creature! Never saw one of these when we were in Africa. The graphic design in their ears seem to mimic horns! Nice shot catching him between all the bramble.
Before injecting a bit of mirth, this is a splendid composition, Sean! All seriousness aside, however, it makes me mindful of the old tv rabbit ears that were once so common across this land. I wonder if the Gerenuk can pull in channel 5?

Thanks Becky Jo.

I really meant to say their ear patterns resemble antlers!
Although it does look like a graphic designer designed the interior of those ears.
Holy crap this is amazing. I love the look of this creature.
