Another one for the bear fans. This mom was wading through the shallow water at low tide in Lake Clark National Park in Alaska, trying to get a better angle on breakfast. Her two cubs can be seen out of focus in the background waiting for their share of fresh caught salmon. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 310mm) ISO 1600, f/4 at 1/2000th of second.
Another stellar image, Sean! It’s really well composed and I like the layers – water in the foreground, along with the protagonist, dripping wet, terrain in the background punctuated by layers of trees and, of course, an Alaskan mountain range, capped off by a moody sky. Lucky cubs to have a mom so captivated by the need to feed her young and all taking place in a drop-dead gorgeous landscape. Methinks it’s heaven!

Yes. Although with that thick fur it’s amazing how long water seems to drip out of them. By the way, looks like you got some great looks at the waxwings. And in great light.

Ha. Thanks Sue. It’s a magical world up there and with the wide open vistas of the shoreline there’s so much life you can observe as it plays out.
We’re you in a boat? Or did you take this with a super magnified lens?
No. It was low tide so lots of sandbars to set up on with camera. I was lying in the wet sand. It was cold but well worth it.
You captured beautiful drama!
Thanks Laura.

Bears are possibly my favorite animals (don’t tell any of the others, especially my cats)!
Thanks James, and yes, cats (I have two) can be jealous beasts indeed.
Great shot, Sean. Judging from the dripping water (a nice element) it looks like she just stood up.

Superb!
Thanks Rachel.
It just occurred to me that your title ‘standing bear’ sounds like it could be the name of an American Indian.
