Despite their reputation as scavengers, spotted hyenas are skilled hunters, and mothers will nurse their cubs for up to 18 months, one of the longest periods of any carnivore. We saw hyenas on our Africa trip and I felt they all had a beleaguered look about them . Nice to see a shot of really healthy looking Mom & pup.
Yeah, they can be scrappy looking at times.
