A snapping turtle searches for a new body of water to lay her eggs. I took this one years ago at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge down in Delaware. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 290mm) ISO 400, f/5.6 at 1/1250th of a second.
Wow. What a great angle! And I love the small insect flying above the shell. I’ve only had a drive through Bombay Hook and I want to go back and spend more time there.
Looks like she is shushing you away with the wave of her front leg. They look grumpy all the time, and I think she just wants to be left alone. I saw one recently laying eggs, and her neck was stretched way out while she clawed at the sand to bury her eggs. Quite a sight!

Very nice.
Wonderful!
Look at that flat stomach! Damn. Every day is an ab day if you’re a turtle, apparently.
