Adult male mountain gorillas are called silverbacks for an obvious reason — all that silver hair growing on their backs. I asked this one if he would be so kind as to turn around so that I could get a picture of that silver hair. He respectfully obliged and allowed me to snap a few shots before turning to face me again. Photographed in the mountains of Mgahinga National Park in Uganda. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens (at 160mm) ISO 800, f/4 at 1/400th of a second.
How lucky you are to have been in the company of such a majestic creature! Did you also ask him if he needed a scratch where he couldn’t reach? Looks like he was trying to tell you something with his enormous hand—“Please, I have an itch!”
I did inquire about lending a hand with a scratch. He waved me off with a passive aggressive comment about the inferiority of Homo sapien finger nails.

This isn’t a gorilla. This right here is a Silver Fox. *Rowr* Kerry knows what I’m talking about.

This photo wouldn’t be the same without the gorilla’s hand! Nice capture.
