While short eared owls are in flight, they look around a lot, always scanning the landscape not only for dinner, but also for danger. They are small owls and their heads turn so quickly that it’s hard to see with the naked eye when they do, but I got quite a few shots like this with the owl’s body going in one direction and the head looking in the other. Nikon D800 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 1250, f/5 at 1/1000th of a second
Wow, great photo! I am in awe of owls and this is one I have never seen before. Ironically it wasn’t the owl that brought me to your page, it was the Parrot snake. I am in the middle of watching an episode of “Wild Things” on the BBC America channel and they just encountered a beautiful green snake. Typical of my nature, I had to pause the show to look for additional photos and information on such an incredible snake. I came across your photos of a Parrot snake and decided to take a peek further to see what else you like to photograph, to my surprise I noticed your photo of the day link and decided to check and see what your photo of the day was. Thank you for such beautiful photos and information.
