It was at this time last year that I arrived in Africa for my last photo trip before locking down. Seems a lot longer ago than that. Here’s hoping I’ll have the chance again sometime in 2021. These African elephants paid us a visit as the sun set behind the mountains of Samburu National Reserve in Kenya. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens (at 70mm) ISO 1600, f/4 at 1/250th of a second.
Thanks Aunt Sue. First up is a proper trip for Karen’s 50th which we sadly had to pass up this past year. Here’s hoping summer of 2021 will be as they predict.
I love the warm timbre of the elephant’s skin with late day lighting, and the framing of one clearly focused elephant “front stage” and the other slightly out of focus in the background. A beautiful gentle capture of these giant creatures. (I miss Africa.)
ps. Please post a bald eagle — we need him more than ever right now.
What a beautiful photo. It has lots of depth, with the foreground elephant so prominent & a lesser focused elephant in the background. A nice view of the habitat beneath a beautiful sky reflecting the day’s waning light. Makes me wanna go there!
Thanks Sue. This was a special night for me. It wasn’t a scheduled game drive but I convinced our guide to take me out for a few hours while the rest of the crew was back at camp. It was actually much darker than it looks in this picture and the elephants ended up passing just feet from our vehicle. This was my last shot with my 70-200mm before switching to me 17-35mm.

I didn’t know Subaru had elephants now. Are they two-door or four-door? Probably four, right?
Definitely four door Louis. As usual your intuition is correct.

No doubt about that Laura. I’ll see what I can find in my files. I still want to do a dedicated eagle trip to Alaska one of these days.

You and me both Michael. You and me both.
