I believe this tiny little frog (about half an inch) to be in the genus Eleutherodactylus. There are about 200 species, commonly called robber frogs or rain frogs. They are known for their high pitched calls. I photographed this one in the Punta Laguna Nature Reserve in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Nikon D800 with Nikkor 105mm macro lens, ISO 1600, f/10 at 1/40th of a second.
I remember this guy. He got pinched knocking over a liquor store in The Bronx back in ’19. Did a year in a 2-inch by 2-inch cell. His celly was a hummingbird who got caught hovering outside people’s windows and watching them undress. I used to see him in the yard talking shit about everyone else’s mating habits. The frog got paroled a few months ago, but I don’t think he’s gone straight. He was very influenced by the movie Oceans 11 and is trying to round up a group of worms to help him rob a casino.
