While I was scanning the trees for birds in Florida’s Corkscrew Swamp, I spotted this young raccoon filling up on berries. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 500mm PF lens, ISO 800, f/5.6 at 1/400th of a second.
I thought for a moment that this looked like a whale eating vegan chicken nuggets, but now that i look more closely i see that you’re right, it’s definitely a raccoon eating berries.
What is it about raccoons, bears and pandas that make them so adorable? Is it the ears, the eyes, the cuddly quality? Great shot of a raccoon. Nice to see one nibbling on berries instead of ransacking our trash cans!

Real nice photo of Rocky Raccoon!
Thanks Sue. He/she was a young one. Very small. Maybe because the ones out in the wild aren’t as well fed as the ones I see around the suburbs.

Agreed Rachel, on both counts. Cute and nice to see one in a truly wild environment.
I like how raccoons use their hands.
Me too. So dexterous.
Oh my gawd! So much cuter than Brooklyn raccoons, those are terrifying.
Ha. And smaller. Those Brooklyn guys can be huge. Too much on the menu.
They may be rascals, but they are soooo cute!
No doubt.
