As the snow continues to fall outside (at least here in the northeast) I thought I’d brighten the day with this one I took in Italy back in May of 2010. Hang in there people, the flowers will be blooming again here soon. For this shot, I was lying on my back in a field of poppies somewhere along the side of the road in Tuscany. Oh to be lying on my back in a field of poppies somewhere along the side of the road in Tuscany right now. Nikon D700 with Nikkor 17-35mm lens (at 17mm) ISO 200, f/18 at 1/400th of a second
Even if we hadn’t had the snowiest winter on record in Massachusetts, what I wouldn’t give to be lying on my back in a field of poppies in Tuscany! And, yes, Michael, poppies bloom on tall stems. I have some covered with at least 5 feet of snow in my backyard! They are obviously dormant now but are one of the early bloomers in my perennial garden. Maybe we will see them in July this year instead of May if the snow keeps up!
Oh to be back in Tuscany myself….Italy is sooo beautiful. Lovely shot Sean, reminds me of a shot I took in Madrid Botanical Gardens of tulips. Such gorgeous colors, but shorter stalks. 🙂
A favorite flower of mine. I had a batch from Portugal that came up like clock work for about tens years and then suddenly disappeared. I miss them every Spring, for they were a highlight and a welcome guest to my gardens. I never tired of taking pictures of them in every stage of their growth.

greatr pic.) are poppies really this tall, or this tall because of the lens.? this is cool looking pic.
When our dreams come alive —- And flowers reach to the sky it —- Might as well be spring .

Poppies, such beautiful blooms. Thanks for brightening this day!
Red cheer on a snowy morning.
Nice shot Sean. Uplifting. Thank you. There’s light at the end of this winter tunnel.
