A polar bear walks along the shoreline of the Hudson Bay, waiting for the water to freeze so that he can venture out to hunt for seals. Photographed at Seal River in northern Manitoba, Canada. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 800, f/4.5 at 1/500th of a second.
Wait, no, I hope you took that took that picture *before* Labor Day. Cause you’re only supposed to wear white before Labor Day. Jeez this is always so confusing. That’s why I only wear thick green and purple stripes 365 days a year.
I do like this photo. First of all, this is an image of an amazing species. Who among us does not like polar bears? Secondly, the blue sky in the background perfectly enhances the white coat of the bear. Thirdly, Sean you clearly assumed a very low vantage point from which to photograph this bruin. Well done & I’m glad you were able to capture this image without being captured by the bear.
You know how I like those low angles. It’s actually the reason I went to Seal River for polar bears. It’s one of the only places in the world to photograph them while on foot. Of course, the entire group of 14 started to drop down on the ground as I was doing which isn’t a good thing. It’s a submissive position to the bear. If just one of us doing it, fine, but all 14 not a good idea. Luckily I got plenty of shots before the guide got concerned.
I have found in my “advanced years” that gettin’ down is still fairly easy. It’s the gettin’ back up wherein lies the challenge. I am impressed that the entire group of 14 was able to “git vertical’ once again. Can’t blame the guide for being concerned.

Against the pure Blue Sky the size of this Polar Bear is amazingly caught in photo

I hope you took that picture after Labor Day, otherwise that bear would be pretty unfashionable.
