As the weather gets colder, it seemed appropriate to pull an image from my polar bear folder. I saw lots of activity like this while in northern Manitoba, Canada — the bears play fighting while waiting for the Hudson Bay to freeze over so that they could get out there and hunt for seals. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 340mm) ISO 800, f/5.6 at 1/500th of a second
Hey Dennis. Happy holidays my man. We were pretty close. This is a full crop. As long as the 14 of is stuck together, and the bears always knew where we were it wasn’t really a problem.
I love this and all the Polar Bear shots, especially the one where you are face to face!!! Can’t wait to see you on Christmas! Put a frog in my stocking!!

I actually cried when I saw them, remembering the wonderful shots Sean had taken on his polar bear trip. And the article I saw said they were scavenging and eating STYROFOAM! That’s obscene!

Great shot — they look like they’re having fun. 🙂
It couldn’t possibly get better than a polar bear faceoff. Grrreat shot, Sean! Thanks for sharing.
Man, I would like to see this. Thanks for taking me there vicariously.
And I’m hoping I can get back again some day. Top notch trip to Seal River Lodge.
How far away were you when you shot this? At 340mm, were you far enough away that the bears wouldn’t be any danger to you? It’s a terrific shot.

Beautiful shot. The recent shots online of starving polar bears is heartbreaking.
