This southern tamandua was getting a good scratch in with the back leg, while continuing to lap up termites and ants. Photographed earlier this year in the northern Amazon basin of Peru. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 500mm PF lens, ISO 800, f/7.1 at 1/320th of a second, Godox 860iii fill flash.
Question: How do Southern Tamanduas feel about the confederate flag? Are they straight-up no-way? Or do they try to pull that ‘it’s about heritage’ bullshit? I have to know this before I can form an opinion on this animal.

What a beautiful creature & an efficient multitasker!
No doubt. We had such good luck with these guys on my last Peru trip. Usually they’re a lot harder to spot.
