Back when I lived in Denver, Great Sand Dunes was always one of my favorite places to visit. It’s about a 3 hour drive southwest of the city. Back then it was only classified as a National Monument but today it is given full National Park status. Mule deer and pronghorn are common grazers in the fields that lead up to the dunes. In this photo, a mule deer was keeping his eye on me as I pulled over to the side of the road.
I think those mule deer miss you Sean. You should come back to Colorado for a visit. Visited the folks in Boston this last week and my mom was recollecting the 1st time she met you. We had a good laugh.
Great shot Sean!!! I’ve been to this locale. What a great place!!! I highly recommend it. I remember when I first saw those dunes-approaching from the south-just an awesome view. Not too far from the border with New Mexico if I’m not mistaken. Truly mesmerizing and the fact that it is in Colorado always baffled me. Not your typical Colorado landscape. Glad to see that they gave it National Park status since it is a real treasure. Thanks for the memory. What is the name of that mountain range? I believe it is Sangre de Cristo if I’m mistaken.

Amazing! It’s like 3 different movie sets pushed together.
