This masked weaver was in the early stages of building its nest. That ring of grass will eventually be an intricate orb dangling from the branch. Photographed on my first trip to Uganda when I went to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 200, f/5.6 at 1/800th of a second.
Beautiful! This little guy has an amazing talent. And great timing for you to have gotten him/her just right! It would be fun to see a stop action of the building of this nest — I’m sure it would be a very impressive process. Do both mates participate in construction?

Beautiful bird. I wish you had included another photo of a completed nest
I’ll have to post a few of those. There were plenty of them.
What a great shot of a beautiful bird, perfectly framed!
Thanks Sue. Always nice to capture the behavior and these birds were on a full display building their nests.
I’m glad to see the Weavers are masking. Everyone has to do their part. Don’t get me started on the anti-masking weavers. Such idiots.
Beautifully framed! By you and the bird.
Thanks Rachel.

That would be cool. I do believe that they both build the nests.
