Marine iguanas seem to be everywhere in the Galapagos Islands. While snorkeling one day, I came across these guys, sunning themselves while their tails dangled in the water. Marine iguanas have longer tails than their land counterparts, allowing them to easily move through the water. Yes, they have the marine iguanas, and also the land iguanas in the Galapagos. The marine iguanas are black and much smaller than the land iguanas, which are orangeish in color. The marine iguanas spend most of their time on land, but go into the water to feed on the algae.
Cue “Jaws” music. This shot feels predatory. “I wish I was in the Galapagos, swimming with a marine iguana (sung to the tune of “Mexican Radio” by Wall of Voodoo). That tail is incredibly long. Nicely done Sean.

Great shot- love that we can see two worlds
Thanks Andi,
I’m looking forward to trying more of these under over type shots on my next trip.
Love photos that make me feel motion. Get seasick just looking at it.
Glad you’re the snorkeling photographer and not me! Great perspective!
Great angle! Feels prehistoric!

Great angle, brings Godzilla to mind…the models made for the 60s sci-fi movies.
Yes, they are very Godzilla-like. I’ll post a few more in the future that look even more like a 60’s reptilian movie monster.
