On our second night in the Masai Mara we came across a pride of lions getting active just as the sun began to set. The pride included several young males, still with just a hint of a mane. About 15 minutes after this moment, they would have a run in with an angry hippo — video to come. We did very well with lions on this trip, which (kind of) made up for the fact that we missed out on cheetahs and leopards. Nikon Z8 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens, ISO 1600, f/2.8 at 1/640th of a second.
What an exceptional photo, Sean. The colors in the dramatic sky surely set the stage for an angry hippo to enter the scene. You’ve got yourself another wall hanger.
The color saturation of the evening sky with honey toned lions in the foreground is simply gorgeous. what a moment to catch. Can’t wait for the angry hippo video !

Bummed we left before all the action. Still going through my photos on the camera to get rid of the bad ones!
Yeah, I have many hours ahead of me to weed out all the bad ones and those 20 frame per second duplicates.

Sean always did well with the lions. The ladies too. But especially the lady lions.
