A young male lion lets out a big yawn before getting up from his afternoon nap. Photographed earlier this year in the Masai Mara of Kenya. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 380mm) ISO 800, f/4 at 1/500th of a second.
That tongue is nice & pink & soft looking – a contrast to the lion’s canine teeth. Those “choppers” appear to have multi-uses. When not ripping into skin & meat, they keep the lion’s tongue neatly tucked inside the mouth! Great photo, Sean.

Are you sure this isn’t your back yard Sean?

I feel just like him some days. Great capture of a big cat doing what big cats do!
