This was our first lion encounter in the Masai Mara on our recent trip. We got close up and I took many frame-filling photos, but I liked this approach shot where I was able to use the environment to frame the lion as he sat atop a small hill. Nikon Z8 with Nikkor 500mm lens, ISO 5600, f/5.6 at 1/500th of a second.
You should do this blog Humans of New York style and ask the animals intimate details about their lives and put their replies in the comments. Stuff like “what was the most special animal you ever hunted?” and “is it considered impolite to fart in your community?”

It’s a great shot but, as your mother it scares me to see you getting that close to the King of the Jungle!
No worries Mom, the lions have no interest in us (as long as we stay in the vehicle).
