Langur monkeys and chital (spotted deer) are often found hanging out together in the national parks of India. They share a mutually beneficial relationship — the tree-dwelling langurs provide lookout services from on high, while the deer use their fine tuned senses on the ground. They are both well aware of the other’s warning calls, and together they stand a better chance against a sneak attack from a tiger.
Inter-species team defense in a red-in-tooth-and-claw world is also seen with birds, perhaps, with their mixed species flocks. Tarzan, Hawkeye, and Mowgli listened to the sounds, or lack thereof, of the animals, so count humans in this group. Arresting capture!
Thanks everyone. It was certainly amusing to see these guys existing in such close proximity. I kept waiting for one of the monkeys to jump on top of a deer and try to ride it.
