A Galápagos land iguana makes its way across the sandy terrain of North Seymour Island. These guys are big iguanas, usually yellowish/orange in color but they can also be a variety of other colors. Charles Darwin was not impressed as he described them as “ugly animals, of a yellowish orange beneath, and of a brownish-red colour above: from their low facial angle they have a singularly stupid appearance.” Rather unprofessional if I do say so from Mr. Darwin. Ah Louis my old friend. Ask and you shall receive. Yes, there are other iguanas in the Galápagos called “marine” iguanas. As you — a rather smart man — might imagine, they go into the water. They do spend most of their time on land but they feed on the algae on the rocks in the ocean. Land iguanas never go into he water. So there you have it.

If Charlie could return to our world, with today’s gigantic body of knowledge, he may be somewhat embarrassed by his myopic viewpoint!
I’ll give him a pass for his work on that little “On the Origin of Species” thing he did.
How big is “big”? He looks to be the size of an alligator, perhaps a couple oh hundred pounds?
Hey Mom, they average 3 to 5 feet long. Not quite Alligator status, but big for an iguana.
If there are Land Iguanas, are there Sea Iguanas? Sky Iguanas? Space Iguanas?
