When trekking for mountain gorillas on my most recent trip to Uganda, this youngster was the first of the troop to come tumbling out of the thick vegetation. He/she (too early tell gender) appeared as surprised to see us as we were to see him/her. Photographed in Mgahinga National Park. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens (at 98mm) ISO 1600, f/2.8 at 1/1250th of a second.

Super swell! May your young gorilla romp through the Uganda forest for a very long time!
Let’s hope so. They are one of those species to be cautiously optimistic about as their numbers have been increasing in recent years.
Great shot, Sean. Reminds me of, “Smile, you’re on candid camera”.

No doubt Joel. A little surprised to see a group of humans staring back from the forest.
Amazing. It looks like a youngster!
Definitely a young one. I was told that it would be another year before they could determine sex.
I’m sure Mom wasn’t too far behind.. It must have been one of those heart stopping WOW moments when this one appeared!
For sure. Mom, and big bad Dad were next out of the bushes.
