Here’s another look at the striated caracara (aka Johnny Rook). I was down on the ground with my camera and wide angle lens while this guy was chasing around a Gentoo penguin egg, unable to figure out how to break it open as it rolled across the beach on Saunders Island in the Falkland Islands. Nice angle and story. (By the way, your pictures used to show in my e-mail; now i have to click on the link to see them. Is this your change or something I did unknowingly?)
Hi Rick, I did just change my WordPress theme so maybe that’s the issue, but I never knew that a picture showed up in the email. I’ll look into it. By the way, I’m enjoying all your recent posts on Facebook. As widespread as they may be, always great to see and photograph red foxes. Not to mention bears.

What a shot!
Thanks Sue. I love it when I can use the wide angle for wildlife.

Thanks, Sean. But the benefit of not seeing the images in e-mail is that then I remember to click through and get to the comment page.
graet pic. does he ever break the egg for his dinner, or does some other aminal break it for him, then he get to eat what is left over ?.
Hey Michael, he waited for another bird with a more pointy beak to break it open. They he fought with that other bird for the egg.
