It was a fairly long hike up rocky terrain to reach the bamboo forest where these golden monkeys live, but well worth the effort — one of the highlights of my trip to Uganda last year. Due to the limited habitat where they live, golden monkeys are listed as an endangered species. The red of their fur created a nice contrast to the fresh green bamboo shoots within Mgahinga National Park. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 200mm) ISO 800, f/4 at 1/50th of a second.
Where’s the gold? I was expecting some Liberace-level gold here. Or was it supposed to be metaphorical, as in “this monkey’s personality sparkles like gold” or “those years I spent living, laughing and loving with my friend the black and marmalade monkey were truly golden years”? Or is that he’s a Gold Rewards Member at Marriott?
So much detail in this shot! The delicate hands, the fur, black to brown to a golden furrowed brow, and that one eye so clear. More than a portrait, this one I think tells a story. I agree: well worth the effort & we thank you!
