For the majority of the day, lighting in Botswana’s scrublands can be harsh on sunny days. But when that sun hits the horizon, all that scrub brush takes on a whole new look. And there’s usually a subject or two around to pose for the camera. Nikon D700 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens (at 150mm) ISO 800, f/2.8 at 1/1000th of a second.
Oh, that is such a lovely image on several levels, Sean! To begin with, I would give your giraffe a blue ribbon + the grand champion award. It’s a real beauty! The layers of pastel colors in the background are stunning & the “plainness” of the sky contrasts nicely with the foreground flora patterns as well as with the well-placed protagonist. It’s a great shot that would make a commanding statement on the cover of a magazine. Needless to say, I like it!
Thanks Sue. When the light is good my biggest fear is that no one will be around. This giraffe made sure that wasn’t the case on this particular evening.

A great capture. Love these moments of nature that great me in the morning. Nature amazes and you capture it so well.
Thanks Bill. I’ll keep them coming.
