Last week I posted a photo of the river otters that we get in North America. These are their cousins in South America, the giant river otters. As the name would suggest, they are big — when full grown, an adult can exceed six feet in length. This mother was moving along the river bank with her six pups — the four pictured, and two that were lagging behind in the water. Thanks Jeanne,
I do try to get out there as much as possible, but not nearly as much as I would like. Would love to get back to the Pantanal sometime soon. It’s a really great place for a diversity of species.
Sean- I’ve been enjoying your photos for a few weeks. I am a Collinsville friend of your Dad’s. Thank you for sharing these amazing shots ! They are the first thing I look for in my mailbox !

What a cool shot. Whenever I have seen anything with otters, it is usually as individuals. I’ve never seen a pack of them. Really cool.
Amazing photo of otter family! You must really travel a lot to get so many terrific photos
of such a diversity of species!
Thanks Jeanne,

Your shots tell great stories Sean. Just curious: what was the mother looking at? She seems concerned. Was there
a predator(s) lurking?
Thanks Tom, if anything she was a bit concerned by the boat carrying a strange looking bald guy down the river.

What an awesome scene to witness. I can’t imagine the size of these otters. That is really big indeed!
