Gerenuks are known for their extremely long necks and are often called giraffe gazelles. But they also have rather interesting ears. Not just in size, but also in pattern. This is a female, photographed in Samuburu National Reserve in Kenya. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 400, f/5.6 at 1/1000th of a second.
What a charming creature! This one conveys a sweet disposition: big eyes, long eyelashes, a curios gaze. I’ll bet it is very fast too! We did not see one of these when we travelled to Africa. It would have brought a smile, as this one does here. Thank you!
Thanks Laura. They live in the northern parts of Kenya. I always try to mix up my locations in Kenya and visit the Masai Mara in the south and then one of the northern parks like Samburu.

OMG. that just couldn’t be any cuter! I had not previously heard of the Gerenuk. Thanks so much for educating me about them.
My pleasure Honora. They are often seen in the northern parts of Kenya and I always like to add one of the northern parks when I visit the Masai Mara.
Amazing. Looks like a cross between a north American deer and a giraffe!
For sure. They can be very comical looking when standing upright on just their back legs.

Love them ears!
No doubt Sue. Me too.
I think giraffes (which I love) have longer, fuller eyelashes. But i DO like the color inside their lovely big ears.
For sure. But that neck is surely giraffe-like.
