We only saw one Galápagos flamingo on our trip to the Islands, but considering there are only 500 of them on the archepelago, those aren’t bad odds. And he/she had the decency to wallow in a dark area while the sun illuminated his/her body. I was okay with that. Photographed on Santa Cruz island. Nikon D800 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 310mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/2500th of a second.
Thanks Mary. You need to get back to Africa. Lake Nakuru in Kenya or Lake Natron in Tanzania are great spots to see them in large numbers. But they can be seen in other spots across the world too like the Caribbean and South America, even parts of Europe.
Stellar! Our small local zoo has a flock of Chilean flamingoes & last year 4-5 chicks hatched. It was so much fun photographing them until COVID shutdown the zoo to the public. While I would much rather photograph such birds in the wild, I have been fairly successful cropping out buckets, fences & people. It is amazing to get to see the chicks. Sean, your photo is absolutely splendid. Perfect lighting. You nailed it!
