This Florida box turtle was eyeing me cautiously as I got down on the ground for a quick portrait. I was in Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida, on my never ending — and most likely never-to-be-realized — search for a Florida panther. We all have our dreams. In the meantime, enjoy the turtle. We have lived in SW Florida for almost 18 years on a golf course. I have seen a panther twice in all that time, always fleeting, always startling, and breathtaking. With each sighting I knew I was very very lucky indeed. I hope you get your chance to see one!

Awesome, Sean – love the angle!
The eye, of course, makes the photo.
I hope you achieve the dream of a Florida Panther, as it is mine also. One of us must succeed.

I like to think that this turtle’s dream was to have it’s picture taken, and posted on a highly regarded nature photography blog.
