There are quite a few different species of glass frogs that live in Central and South America. They are very small and most are green with a translucent belly. Viewed from below, you can see the internal organs — thus the name. This guy, the Fleischmann’s or northern glass frog, photographed in the El Valle region of Panama, can be distinguished by the faint yellow spots on its back. Wow – what a beauty! Nice photo, Sean. I had no idea there were frogs known as “glass frogs”. Just when I thought clearwing butterflies were the cat’s meow, you come up with a remarkable “Kermit”. Thanks for the ongoing edification! I hope that everyone who books your POTD clicks on the image to see it enlarged. Fantastic details!

Thanks Sue. That’s what I love about tropical regions — such a rich diversity of life when you really start to look.

Great imagery, Peter, and nary a pixel needed!
Looks a bit like the candy “gummy” frogs
Yes, and even more so from the front view where you see more of the translucence. I’ll have to post on of those soon.
Delicate perfection.
That frog looks like Peter Lorre.
A little bit. I can see that. I guess it’s amphibian anthropomorphic week on the Sean Crane Photography blog.
It’s not easy being so Green!
