This is one of those that you might have had to be there to appreciate. I was in Carrizo Plain, a large desert-like grassland about 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles. I had been in search of the elusive kit fox and having no luck. Suddenly the sky lit up with this colorful cloud formation, providing at least something to photograph before calling it a night. Fantastic! Talk about being in the right place at the right time, Sean. Isn’t it interesting how we head out the door with camera, lens and tripod in tow with a specific subject in mind when Mother Nature throws us a delightful curve ball? What’s a nature and wildlife paparazzi to do, but take a swing? You hit a homer with this one!

Thanks Sue. That’s the thing about nature and wildlife photography, right? You have to be prepared for whatever comes your way.
This is so beautiful. I miss seeing you and hearing your stories.
I miss telling them. You were always a great audience. Hope all is well. Let’s get a ginger ale soon.
absolutely beautiful
Thanks Renee. Heading out your way soon. Close, but not that close as I’m planning a fall trip to Tasmania.
great pic. ) what f, stops did you used for this great pic.? )
Thanks Michael. I was using f/8 on this one.
Oh my, it looks like feathers!
Soft and pretty as can be.
Even better than the kit fox! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Donna. I sure would like to photograph those kit foxes, however, one of these days.
Beautiful. I haven’t seen anything like this before. Nice treat!
Me either. It was so odd, that one fiery spot on the wispy horizontal cloud.
I appreciate it! I’ve never seen anything like that before.
This is amazing. How long did this fire cloud stay in the sky?
As with most color in the sky, not long.
Pigment deftly placed
Neatly tipped and feathered
A test of natures’ brush .
