Last month I posted a wild burro at a distance, behind a bush of yellow flowers. Here’s a completely different angle. As I mentioned previously, these wild burros, or donkeys, or asses if you prefer, are the only wild herd in the United States on anything other than federal land. They roam free on the hillsides of Moreno Valley in California. Nikon D800 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 350mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/2500th of a second
I must say I like the giraffe eye better, but this is nice. I notice the donkey and the giraffe are both brown-eyed, which raises a genetic curiosity: are all these large animals brown-eyed or do some have blue or green eyes?

Nice!

Well, most of the hooves animals have brown eyes. I recently posted a lemur with blue eyes. We’re pretty rare in that respect.

Rising up, back in the pasture
Did my time, with a rancher
Stood around, now now I’m standing some more
Just an ass and his really long ears
So many times it happens too fast
You trade your hay for oats
Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must bray just to keep them alive
It’s the eye of the burro
It’s the thrill of the munch
So intense a good choice for photo today

Thanks Aunt Sue. This one was Karen’s pick.
I see a gentle kindness in his gaze. Wish we could learn from him.
Love love love the composition!
