A mother African bush elephant leads her calf on a foraging mission under a full moon in Samburu National Reserve, Kenya. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens (at 70mm) ISO 800, f/4 at 1/200th of a second, 3 stop graduated neutral density filter.
So many great things at work in this photo: mom & calf placidly ambling on, the warm tones of their skin contrasting the cool greens, mountains in the background, acacia trees framing, and then the moon, a seemingly benevolent presence. Serene—Africa is calling us to come back.
Thanks Laura, I can hardly wait to get back. You noticed the warm tones of those elephants. It’s amazing how different they look vs the same species in the Masai Mara. It’s all about the red dirt that they regularly toss on their bodies for sunscreen.

Ditto!
I don’t get it. I don’t understand this photograph.
But Louis, this photograph most definitely understands you.
Stunning!
Thanks Shardae.
Well, that is just gorgeous.
