Here’s another situation where I was able to get the camera on the ground and shoot using a handheld remote trigger. Samburu National Reserve in the north of Kenya is a nice contrast to the Masai Mara in the south. The Mara is more fertile, with green rolling hills, while Samburu is more of a desert-like landscape. The elephants are the same species in both places, but they appear less grey in Samburu due to the red clay dirt that exists throughout the park. Nikon Z8 with Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 lens (at 41mm) ISO 2200, f/5.6 at 1/640th of a second.
Great image! The low angle of your camera, in addition to the relatively wide angle lens setting, really emphasizes the massive scale of this beautiful African elephant. The mama looks somewhat curious yet trigger ready to rumble if she senses trouble that may harm her precious baby. Nicely done, Sean!

The silence of the mirrorless shutter also helps for this technique. She seemed pretty relaxed during the entire session of shots.
She looks ancient, wise, all knowing. Magnificent shot Sean.
Ps Have you had any Tuskers Beer yet- highly recommend..
For sure Michael. Tusker was a nightly treat with dinner.
Great uptrunk shot.
Was your camera equipment in danger of being crushed as the elephant walked by?

You know I have those quick third baseman’s hands. No danger. But the camera falling off the end of the tripod is always a concern.
Everyone loves to see a Momma & Baby together in natural surroundings
Still done know how you do it every time
Well done! Amazing your camera wasn’t crushed
Definitely a bit nervous dangling it over the open side of the safari vehicle.
It looked like a “hold your breath and click” moment. And you were well rewarded with a great shot AND her cooperation.
